Homeownership Reparative Transfer Program (HORT) Updates

The HORT Pilot 2.0 launched in July 2024. It’s composed of PIlot 1.0 applicants who were either waitlisted or were unable to complete the program requirements within the timeframe allocated. Participant experience and feedback have guided modifications to further simplify and streamline the experience.

Information about this reparative demonstration model has been updated on the website. You can also download a printable PDF file.

To date, seven participants have completed the Pre-Application activities, including Orientation, Homebuyer Education, and a Restorative Genealogy Consultation to complete their family tree and confirm their eligibility for the program. They report that the 1:1 orientations with the HORT Program Manager were quite or extremely effective for learning the HORT required activities and deciding whether it’s the right time for them to apply for HORT and pursue buying a home. All felt like their unique situations and interests were understood and supported.

Each is making steady progress towards achieving their unique homeownership goals, a complex endeavor under any conditions. Participants are assembling their homebuying team (e.g. lender, realtor). Special thanks to Our volunteer HORT Homebuyer Mentors for helping our participants through the homebuying process.
