Join the RepGen House Meeting Coach Squad

All of us need to navigate our next individual and community level steps for learning, healing, and effectively advancing reparations. A great way to do this is to join the RepGen House Meeting Coach Squad.

Why does RepGen do In-Person and Virtual House Meetings?

We find them to be an effective low barrier, high joy way that reparations supporters can open the doors to new friends. The 75 minute intimate gatherings feature short & interesting programs, connection and truth-telling, and deliver a boost to the “reparations curious” as well as the “reparations activated” on our journeys.

Why do we need a bigger Coach Squad for our House Meetings?

Many house meeting attendees wish to host house meetings for their own networks.  While RepGen can offer a basic toolkit, it’s helpful and more fun to have a coach to help set goals, the agenda, attend, debrief the wins and chart the follow up when it’s over.  We need more coaches to support the growing number of folks ready to host.

What activities and time commitment are required?

  • Attend Monthly Meeting for Training and Coordination (75 min) – Time TBD
  • Co-Host One House Meeting Host Orientation (75 min) – Quarterly
  • Coach/Support 1-2 House Meetings/Hosts per Month – (up to 10 hours/mo)
  • Six months commitment requested

Useful skills and experience:

Event Planning and Facilitation, Scheduling Savvy, Organized, Friendly & Positive, Comfortable with Zoom, Clear Communicator.

If this might be a good match for your volunteer time, treasures and talents let’s talk! No obligation.

With each virtual or in-person house meeting and every panel presentation RepGen does, more people become aware of reparations, their own and others’ stories of systemic racism in the US, and are ready to speak and act to advance reparations. The vast majority of attendees report “a little” to “much more” understanding of and support for reparations. RepGen co-hosts intentionally affirm “group agreements” at the start to create an open co-learning environment.

That’s one reason an in-person house meeting in Oakland, CA last month engaged and moved all twelve attendees who ranged from “reparations curious” to “reparations activated.” All of us need to navigate our next individual and community level steps for learning, healing, and effectively advancing reparations. For instance, at a recent RepGen virtual monthly house meeting, three members of an Indiana-based task force who learned about the RepGen reparations in action approach were inspired by the HORT Program model and exchanged ideas, challenges, and resources with other attendees from New Hampshire, Georgia, and California.

RepGen also co-creates with groups like the Rossmoor Advocates for Diversity and African Americans & Friends to plan events and share resources that meet their unique community interests and needs. The chance to co-plan is mutually beneficial. In this case, it allowed RepGen to share our story and approach, lift up the Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation, and collect relevant feedback on the event from attendees. All of these also helped guide some of the Rossmoor leaders’ next steps.

Join the RepGen House Meeting Coach Squad! If the idea of helping RepGen build awareness and support for reparations through House Meetings and Collaborative Presentations makes your heart beat a little faster, please join our Squad. We’ve created some tools and best practices and with a few more coaches we can escalate our impact in 2024.
